Welcome to

Pastel Blue Heart

Jax's Page

Behind every shelter gate, a hopeful soul awaits...

This page was created to bring to light the story of a shelter dog who has been long overlooked - a dog who has spent much of his life waiting for someone to see beyond the shelter gates and discover the wonderful dog who has been there all along, simply waiting to be noticed.

Maybe, by the time you reach the end of this page, you’ll understand why so many of us are hoping that Jax’s next chapter will finally be his Forever Home.

Meet Jax

The shelter dog with gentle eyes, a golden glow and a dream...

A handsome, happy-hearted boy with gentle eyes, a bright golden glow… and a dream - a dream of finding a Forever Home. That’s JAX!

Jax is a mature boy, a gorgeous Labrador mix, full of life, resilience, and an appreciation for life’s simplest pleasures.

Despite being a long-time resident at our private, no-kill shelter, Jax has never lost his big smile or his grateful heart. He’s a volunteer favorite who has touched the hearts of so many - and we believe he’ll touch yours too, once you meet him.

Jax doesn’t need a fancy life. He just needs a kind human willing to give him a chance, welcome him into their heart, and make him a cherished member of the family for all the golden years ahead.

Are you the kind human Jax is waiting for?

Jax's Story

A Story Still Being Written...

Jax’s story began many years ago, when a one-year-old pup somehow found himself in a crowded, high-intake public shelter. Soon after, a respiratory illness landed him in the isolation unit, and in that cold, lonely moment of his life, Jax realized his days were numbered.  He realized he needed a miracle.

And then, we saw him!  Or he saw us!

He didn’t bark. He didn’t cry. He simply reached out in silence, with the softest, most soulful eyes and a sweet, angelic face that said everything he couldn’t.  Our hearts melted.  And right then we knew we had to save him.

Saving him we did, and Jax was quickly transported to Pet Adoption Fund (PAF), our private, no-kill rescue in Los Angeles, where he would be safe and ready for a fresh start.

We truly believed his stay would be temporary.  We pictured someone walking through our doors, falling head over heels, and giving him the forever home we had envisioned for him.

For a little while, it seemed that dream had come true. Jax was adopted, and we let ourselves breathe again.  But sadly, it wasn’t meant to be, and Jax was back with us once again.

So he waited. And waited. Days melted into months.  Months turned into years.  Somewhere along the way, the young, playful pup we had rescued, began to grow older, and today, all these years later, now 8 years of age, he is STILL HERE... STILL WAITING...

The hard truth is that the older dogs get, and the longer they wait, the harder it becomes for them to be seen.

It breaks our hearts to think of all the years Jax should have spent curled up on a couch, hanging his head out of a car window, and being loved by a family of his own, slipping quietly by while he waited for someone to choose him.

But Jax has never stopped hoping. And neither have we.

There is nothing we want more than to watch the boy who grew up before our eyes walk through those shelter gates one last time.  To leave his kennel behind.  To leave the waiting behind. And to go home with someone who will love him the way we do, for every single day of his precious life.

Jax has waited long enough.

His story began in 2019 - YOU can help write his 'Happy Ending.

Jax always greets me with a smile and sits for a treat. Love him!

If I stop petting him, he nudges me gently with his paw asking for more.

He likes to lay down with his head on my lap. So adorable!

Sometimes he'll stand up and put his paws around me to tell me not to leave.

Will You be JAX'S Hero?

Jax would thrive with someone who:

  • Wants a mature, loyal companion.

  • Enjoys peaceful, leisurely walks.

  • Has a quiet, patient, gentle, adult home.

  • Has the understanding that shelter dogs need time to adjust.

  • Physically capable of handling a large dog

  • Prefers one devoted dog.

Q: Why should I adopt an older dog? A: An older dog like Jax can bring a calmer, more settled companionship into your life...and much more. Perhaps more importantly, you'll be giving a deserving dog the chance to spend his later years knowing what it feels like to be living in a home. It will be a rewarding feeling you will never forget.

Q: At his age, does he have any energy to go on walks? A: Absolutely! He still has plenty of pep in his step. He does go on walks with our volunteers daily, and he does walk well on lead. But he is a big boy, so he does need a good grip at the other end of the lead.

Q: He's been at the shelter for so long, will he be able to adjust to my home? A: As most shelter dogs, Jax too will need time to adjust and learn his new routine. With love, patience and time, Jax has the full potential of becoming your greatest companion.

Q: He's a big dog, will he need a ranch or a large yard? A: NO! Though Jax would enjoy having a fenced-in outdoor space, a ranch size is not required. We will be happy to discuss his space needs with you further.

Q: Would he be ok in a home with no kids or other pets to play with? A: Actually that would be PERFECT for Jax! He prefers to be in the company of chill adult humans than other animals anyways. Frankly, he prefers to keep his distance from other animals altogether.
